Time for the Gamate. The handheld gaming system which should have used the tagline “You’ve never heard of it!”
More obscure than an unpublished novel written by a 17th century Bavarian peasant who immediately ate the manuscript on completion then dropped dead, the Gamate offers low-level Gameboy-style fun together with really bad screen ghosting. And a horrible tinny speaker.
Due to them costing a fortune, only two games appear in the video – Brick Blaster, in which you don’t blast bricks but smash them with a ball, and Dino Ball, which appears to feature no dinosaurs whatsoever.
But hey, at least the games come on nifty looking cards!

And now the all-new Wii rip-off, the subtly (ahem) named ‘WLL’. It ticks all the boxes: Nasty d-pad, questionable LCD screen, multiple pop out games and deafening shrieky tunes. Games include all the classics: City Fighter, Submarine Invasion, Soccer, Snowboarding… the fun never starts! If this is supposed to be a Wii, I dread to think that what they’ll conjure up for the Wii U. Probably an Etch-a-Sketch with a fake PSP glued to it.

Classic Game Room reviews CATHERINE on Playstation 3 (and Xbox 360) from Atlus, a bizarre puzzle game where Fatal Attraction meets Climbing for Dollars (Running Man anyone?)!!! From the team that brought you Persona comes Catherine, a mystery, thriller mixed with a Japanese horror movie, anime and strategic puzzle game where your character climbs to save his life! Vincent is having strange dreams that he can’t remember and his girlfriend is pressuring him to get married… oh and she’s pregnant. Maybe Vincent shouldn’t be cheating on Katherine with Catherine, a psycho hottie that he meets in the bar. Catherine packs a solid story, multiple endings and puzzle gameplay that can be enjoyed numerous times. If you dig games like Persona and the Shin Megami Tensei series as well as puzzle thinking games then Catherine is for you (the non-crazy one maybe). Classic Game Room HD Reviews the NINTENDO DS LITE handheld video game console! From Nintendo, the DS Lite has brighter screens and weighs less than the previous model but retains the Gameboy Advance slot that was f—-n removed in the Nintendo DSi. What!? They removed one of the best features?? Yes, yes the did. And the penalty is that CGR recommends the Nintendo DS Lite because of the MASSIVE library of awesome (and many not-so-awesome) games available on Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance media. The Nintendo DS (all models) have sole more than 115 million units putting it up there with Playstation 2 PS2 numbers. The PSP isn’t the portable Playstation 2, this thing is. The DS had a wide, eclectic array of software titles available for it. Awesome Nintendo exclusives, RPG games, adventure, 2D side scrollers, strategy and puzzle games. It’s built like a tank, has excellent battery life and even comes with a sometimes-cool touchscreen. This CGR review of the Nintendo DS Lite has footage of the DS showing what this piece of Nintendo hardware looks like in HD video.

Classic Game Room Reviews SPY HUNTER for the NES Nintendo Entertainment System. Spy Hunter is the 1983 classic from Bally Midway where you play as a spy driving a car and boat that blasts enemy vehicles and helicopters while dodging innocent civilians. Players score points as they drive and cover distance. Spy Hunter is as old school arcade challenging as it gets and will punish all but the most skilled players with unpredictable enemies and bad guys looking to run you off the road. It’s a cool game, a cross hybrid between an arcade shooter and driving game. Spy Hunter arcade cabinets were really cool back in the day too. This NES video game cartridge can be easily found these days for an affordable price. Classic Game Room reviews SPEED RACER for Nintendo Wii, a futuristic racing combat game based on the 2008 Speed Racer live action movie based on the awesome 1960’s animated television show. Race as Speed Racer, Trixie, Racer X and more as you compete in series challenges that take place on colorful, fast-moving race tracks around the world. This driving game on Nintendo Wii is played using the Wiimote like a wheel (you can play with the Mario Kart Wii wheel) and has predictable controls when driving. Kar-Fu action slows down the driving and crashes an otherwise entertaining and playable game into the barrier of mediocrity.
